Life and Lemons

Heard the cliché saying "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"? Of course you have, it's been such an overused platitude I don't think anyone even uses it anymore. Well I had this amazing blog all lined up for yesterday and today but life threw lemons at one of my Veteran friends. So I've only a short note on Lemons for you instead of the blogs I'd planned which can wait until next week, I'm not sure my friends problems could have.

it's a pretty dumb analogy when you think about it, I've heard it used to minimise someone's serious life crisis a few times. Yeah sorry, but comparing someone's real world problems to having an over abundance of bitter fruit is a shitty thing to do. You can't make lemonade from losing a loved one, witnessing traumatic events or any other awful thing on the spectrum of negatively impacting life events. "Oh well sorry that traumatic event may have left you permanently changed in a way that will affect your reality forever but you know look on the bright side" no, these aren't events you can make the most of or find a silver lining from.

Some folk do successfully over time reframe the negative narrative and become catalysts for beautiful and powerful change. But the crappy thing that happened (the lemons life threw at you) was a crappy thing by nature and denying it's negative impact on your life, just doesn't seem like a helpful thing to do.

Sorry it's not much but I was helping someone sort their life out and it was a bit messy and a bit ugly and there is no way to make lemonade from some situations, but I can help him keep trying. I'll find some way to sit with him and keep his morale up until this too passes.

Until tomorrow

Loren xx
